I received a finger print request by email from Vancouver CIC. A friend of mine applied for citizenship a year before I did and never received anything for finger request and is in progress to path taking.
Is there a reason why I would get a request and my friend didn’t? I have not been arrested or in trouble or have any prohibitions of any kind since arriving 3 years ago in Canada. Is this something I really need to be concerned about?

It is pretty standard request.. No one can guess the reason for such a request...
You should be content with the fact that work is being done on your file and progressing along well until this stage...

I thought so as well but I just find it weird my friend wasn’t required to have fp done during the PR process and the citizenship. Yeah so far it’s 6 months in the process. Hope to have news soon when the test is offered

It’s pretty much normal honestly. Although not everyone receive FP request, so many people including me have received this request, and no one knows the exact reason behind it. However, many people guess that one of the reasons is a name match in their database. Someone with a similar name to yours might be a criminal, and they want to make sure you’re not the same person. That’s just a guess though.

Don’t worry and just send your FP ASAP. As others said, it can be considered as a good sign that your application is under progress actively, and you will hear some good news soon hopefully. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your experiences regarding fp. I’m getting it done today. Already 7 months in the process. Hopefully next thing will be an invite to take my test and all other steps to follow afterwards.
