Hey there,

my husband is trying to sponsor his daughter who is 9...can a birth certificate be used as a national identity document? also when sponsoring a child to Canada if they are coming from the US and dont have a passport is that okay if i answer no to her having a passport? will this be grounds for refusal of permanent residence? reason being I want to get the application in as soon as possible and when she comes to Canada she will be coming by car so she will be able to cross the boarder with her birth certificate like she usually does when she visits for school breaks

Thanks!!

National ID number is not mandatory field. If your conutry doesnt provide a Nation ID system. You dont have to put it in.
Birth certificate is not a national ID.

And regarding Passport. You need to have a passport to have the PR application processed, AFAIK. If not already, please apply for one at the earliest.

Hi

No, a birth certificate is not a national identity document. Many countries don't issue them, so if she doesn't have one, put N/A.

She needs a passport for the application.
