So I just did something a little silly. I took the bus from Montreal to new york and didn't take my open work visa document.
I have my UK passport with the stamp (has the same number as the document) and I believe I have a scan/ photo of the actual thing somewhere in my emails.
Will I be able to get back in?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure they will let you in. Would be good to print that copy and explain the situation. I wouldn't book a flight though, but bus should be ok.

Helps that the OP is on a visa exempt passport so should be no issues.

I'm on a visa exempt passport?

As I understand it the stamp is the visa and the paper is the work permit?

It means you can travel to Canada without a visa with your UK passport. Most countries need a visitor/tourist visa for entering not even working.

If you would take a flight you should apply for ETA, which is the "Canadian ESTA". But it's not your case I think. Oh, and I think if your visa has been issued after 2015 September, it already has ETA assigned to it.

I have exactly the same problem as the OP.
Went to Europe by plane (my passport is italian) but, stupidly, forgot my work permit in Canada.

My passport has several stamps with the number of my work permit printed on it because I traveled a couple of times back and forth from Europe. I have pictures of the permit on my phone but I don't know if the officials at the borders will accept that.

Will I get into trouble when I'll return?

Print a good quality copy of your permit and explain your situation at the airport. It's good that your passport has a stamp with your WP's number. You should be ok, however, you should know, they have the right to not allow you to board the plane, which is really unlikely though.

If the right to deny my boarding is related to eTA, I should be exempt since my permit was issued in January 2016.
Other than that, I thought the decision to enter Canada was taken only after you reach a Canadian airport, not before boarding the plane.

By the way, thank you for the info. I feel more relaxed now :)

Sorry, I didn't wanna scare you, but recently there are a lot of cases when travellers can't board because of some stupid airport officers. Canada requires a pre-check... Last time I came back they asked more questions than CBSA...

Just good to be aware of it. If anything would happen (probably won't) you will know how to approach and handle the situation. Probably you just show the stamped page in your passport and they let you go through

Well, funny thing is that I have all of my approved application, since I can download the approval letter from MyCIC. So, I guess that should not be a problem.
Thank you again.
