Foreign worker on updating OHIP card after landing

Hello, can I have a questions regarding on the requirement to renew the OHIP card? Is it true that after landing, even if someone already has the OHIP(as a foreign work on a work permit), the OHIP still needs to be renewed? My current OHIP card is valid for another two years, does it make any sense to renew it just because of landing?

I find the following document checklist in the service canada website.
(1)record of landing
(2)T4 tax return or bank statement with address on it
(3)photo ID such as driver license

I just wonder if the above documents are only for anyone never applied for OHIP before, for someone that already has OHIP card, is there different requirement for documents?

NOT SURE but you might have to renew it/register it again/ inform Service ontario of your new status.(Contact Them)


To convert your card:
Go in person to your local ServiceOntario centre.
Complete a Registration for Ontario Health Coverage (form 0265-82).
Provide three original documents to prove citizenship/immigration status, residency in Ontario and identity.

You can wait, there's no requirement that you renew because you landed. Regardless of when you renew, you still have to bring all those documents, yes.

WP Health Cards are different , get the new one as immigrant . WP OHIP is for WP period only and Immigrants OHIP might be for 5 YRS further both are connected to your status . so get new OHIP as ur status is changed now

Would you mind sharing any specific advantage to renew card as PR status? Are there any specific provisions for PR in OHIP?
