Hey everybody,

I have got a slightly confusing one for you all today.

I came to Canada in March 2019 under IEC, I then got a job in a NOC B role on November 5th 2019 and I am still working for that same employer one year and three months down the line. My IEC is set to expire next month, although my company is offering to let me work remotely back in England for the foreseeable future.

On November 5th 2021, how many years of work experience will that be as there won't be any break in the employment? I understand that I can only claim one year of Canadian work experience as my role will now be in a separate country, but as I will keep my employment continually going from March until November of this year, would that be one year of foreign?

Sorry for any confusion caused in this, if I need to elaborate further than I can do.

You'll be able to claim 1 year of Canadian experience and then 1 year of skilled experience as long as the experience between Nov 2020 and Nov 2021 is uninterrupted.

That's great! @Wolfpmd3 Thank you for the clarification on this. If there's a vacation I'm assuming that's also fine? I am probably going to take a two week vacation to move back to England, have my items shipped etc but I'll still be employed by the company during this period.

One final question then, how would you suggest I fill out my express entry profile? Put 1 year 3 months in Canada for one work experience field and then in a separate field put the 8 months in England?

Since it is the same employer, I would recommend putting one year in Canada and then the second abroad. Because you will not receive any points for your other experience unless it is a full year continuous. I would however, regardless provide a good explanation of your situation when submitting the application in the LOE.

Vacation time is fine, as long as it is part of your work.

Do you not have enough points with the 1 year experience in Canada to earn an ITA? because that would make your life much easier.

Hey @Wolfpmd3 thank you and I will most certainly write a good and hopefully very strong LOE.

The vacation time will indeed be part of my work, so that's also great to hear.

Sadly I'm currently only sitting at 422, so an ITA without that additional year just isn't possible. Trust me, I would love to make my life easier and get rid of the constant headaches caused by this but 422 just won't cut anything.

Thank you for your advice though.
