For those already in Canada on work permit, how will the "landing" process be done when you get your PR visa and COPR?

Can you just go to a port of entry i.e. a CBSA office with immigration services and do your landing there? Or do you walk-in/set up appointment to go to a local CIC office?

as far as i know, once you got the stamped passport , you should go to the border of Canada. For example, here we have the border next to US, then we can go to the border to exit Canada, and enter to U.S, and then back to Canada customs to proceed the landing process.

You can either exit Canada and re-enter with your PR visa, for example by flagpoling at the US border or you can make an appointment to land at your local CIC office.

if flagpoling at the US border, would one need to have a US visa to do that? (I am neither a US citizen nor a US passport holder)

You don't need a US visa. When you arrive at the US border, you tell them that you do not wish to enter the US, you would like to turn around to land as a PR in Canada. They will turn you around and you will arrive back on the Canadian side and do your landing.

i don't think you can land at your local CIC office. As normally when you need to change your status in Canada, you need to do the processing in the entry of Canada= customs( they called Canadian border services) .

People who apply inland are given an appointment to land at their local CIC office and people who didn't apply inland can often do it too. I read an account of a person who had heard that you could land at Canada Place in Edmonton so he went there with his family and asked about it and they let him land there. They do like you to make an appointment though. If it is not convenient for you to go to the border, it doesn't hurt to ask anyway.

I completely agree with Leon. Alongwith flagpoling, you can also visit local CIC office to do the landing formality. I was told this at the time of Immigration at YYC (Calgary Airport). I guess CIC has some local office in Calgary downtown. Once I get the PR, I will have to visit there to get the landing procedure done and also to get my SIN changed from 9XXXXXXXXX (Work Permit) to 6XXXXXXXX (PR).

i saw this from another thread... i guess this clears things up :)

another question :)

what if the TRV is expired and only the work permit is still valid (because of work permit extension) can one still "land" at local CIC office or do we have to do flagpoling?

and if flagpoling and bringing your own car, what documents do you need to bring besides the passport, PR visa and COPR? (i.e. car registration and the like?)

looking forward to reading your replies. :)
