For spousal sponsorship, what I'm seeing is as the sponsor I need to send in a photocopy of my birth certificate, and my spouse needs to send in a copy of his birth certificate, his passport and the marriage certificate. Can you just.. photocopy them however or do they need to be.. I dunno. Done specially?

If the instructions for your country say photocopies are fine, then just ordinary photocopies are fine. If the visa office wants them notarized, it will say so on your country-specific forms.

Okay. He's coming from the states and I didn't see certified anything anywhere, so.

If you are canadian born then you will need birthcert.

Mm, now I'm getting a bit confused. On the document checklist for the sponsor it says "photocopy of either your" and then 5 options. So I assumed just a copy of a Canadian passport would be enough. Does everyone need to send a birth certificate? In the form I'm seeing IMM 5491 the boxes are not straight next to the lines of text but I guess this would be the last box? And you only need to copy the one page containing the information?

Sorry! Yeah passport is fine. You just need to send one. I'll either do my birth certificate or passport. Was using the term a bit catch-all for that section.
