Anyone ever heard of those requirement when coming to visit Canada from the US? The person coming to Canada required to show a letter from their Canadian host stating they will provide for your financial and medical support/accommodations.

This is something else but I can't find it anywhere on any sites. Basically a friend of ours was denied access to Canada because border services weren't convinced she was going to return to the US. So they said next time she came she needed to bring her tax return, proof of employment etc and a letter from someone saying she'd be staying with them etc.
 
Yes - that certainly happens from time to time. This information was probably requested because border officials suspected this individual wasn't just coming for a short visit, but intended to stay long term. Next time she tries crossing the border, she should try to bring as much information as possible that shows strong ties to the us. For example: rental agreement, mortgage, bank account, tax return, letter from employer, pay stubs, school enrollment, return flight/bus ticket, etc.
