I am an Indian national who will be doing my first landing in Toronto in Jan and will be there for a month. I am aware that it may take up to a month to receive my PR card once I have applied for it. Since I have a valid US visit visa, I was wondering whether it would be possible to fly out and visit the US and then come back to Canada before I catch my return flight to the Gulf. I only a have a single entry visa stamped on my passport so I am not sure if I will be able to re enter Canada. I have read that it may be possible to drive out but not fly. If that is the case, can it be on commercial buses (greyhound etc) or must it only be in a personal vehicle? Please advice! Thanks

You would have to return by land in a private vehicle. Commercial carriers (airlines, buses, etc) will not allow you to board without either a valid visa or a PR card. Since you will not have either, it will cause problems.

For the land crossings that allow it, you can also simply walk across (take taxi/bus/train to border, walk across and do immigration, then take taxi/bus/train from there).
