Hello, i recently flagpoled and got my PGWP, however my program was for 2 years and I had in the back of mind that my permit would have been for 3 years but it was only approved for 2years. I felt like he (immigration officer)was toying with me, asking if I knew how long my permit would be for? So i said my understanding is that it would be for 3years max. He said you will be approved for 2. Then he asked me if i had ever done a biometrics, which i told him yes considering it is mandatory to do so from my country. He said he saw on the system that i should pay for one. So i complied knowing that he held the handle and i the blade. I paid for it but still at no point was I processed to give fingerprints or iris scan. Is this the norm?

I did flagpoling too this week. Got my PGWP for three years and was not asked anything regarding biometrics. I am not sure though why he gave you only for 2 years.

Thanks for responding..yes i found it very strange. But like i said i paid cuz i didnt want to seem non compliant. And i could have drawn for the CIC website to show him where it said 2years or more work permit for 3 years. Thanks though at least i got 2 years..its just sad that you cant challenge them.

Sorry but
Can you put some light on flagpoling?
How can an immigration officer give you a pwgp for 2 years?
Is’nt it clearly mentioned 3 yrs on website

If you read the PGWP guidelines they clearly say ‘may’ be given a permit upto 3 years they do not say specifically will be given so the issuing agent has flexibility to give between 2-3 years if they are not totally satisfied that all requirements have been met.

Not clear why the OP only got 2 years but something must have maybe come to the officers attention plus seems based on other posts impression is they sometimes are reluctant to process flagpolers who they would rather see go the mail in route not that that is a reason to issue a shortened permit.

Often there is no apparent logic given people have posted for IEC programs for example where they landed ( not flagpoled) met all the requirements but get 1 instead of 2 years and have to spend money and time applying for a correction. For a PGWP maybe the same approach is required on the basis of admin correction.

Thanks. He was just not utilizing his discretion to give the maximum time. Apart from that it wasnt a bad experience.
Still puzzled by the request to pay for a biometrics there too. Even though like I said its mandatory to do so before leaving my country. Plus I have travelled back outside of Canada since being here and no officer ever brought tbis to my attention.
