Hello everyone and experts,

I'm posting n on behalf of my friend who is currently on a visitor visa for 3 months(has 6 months validity) now, and fortunately, he got an employer with approved lmia. we are aware that applicants that have visitor's visa can apply within Canada until February 28, 2023, but unfortunately, the maximum processing time for online application within Canada is 164 days and his employer needs him to start working sooner than later that's why he is thinking to flagpole and get the work permit on the same day.

the question now is are there any possible complications that could arise doing a flagpole?

Thanks in advance for your input.

If you friend required a TRV to enter Canada then they likely do not qualify to flagpole and must apply online.

You don’t qualify to flagpole for a WP as a visitor who is not visa exempt you must apply online. It will take many months to be processed (often around 6 months) and no guarantee of approval.

That is false, if you are on a TRV and you enter Canada you are eligible to apply for a WP, when you get a company offer letter with LMIA, you can go to the Detroit border and do a flagpole. Which should cost you I believe $250 CAD. It will be advisable to go after 9pm since they are busy during the day and early mornings.

No I am correct and this person does not qualify to flagpole and must apply online. What has changed is that they can now apply online from inside Canada while they used to only be able to apply from outside of Canada.

Hello All,

What time is advisable to be at the border to flagpole for a PGWP? I plan on going this week from Edmonton. Also, do they work on Saturday?

Check to see if they actually do flagpoling on the weekend. Many don’t because weekends are busy times.
