Hi everybody, I am a first time applicant for the study permit from Belize. I studied Business science with majors in economics and management here at college and my university program is bachelor of management with business economic majors. I just want to ask a few questions.
1. What is SOP? Do I need it?
2. How about cover letter?
3. What is a sponsor letter? My parents will pay all my tuition and expenses, so do I need it?
4. Do I need to send my school documents from the college I studied?
5. Does anybody know the cost of study at University of Alberta? room and board, book etc.
Thank you very much!
Answer 1: SOP/Study plan is something where you express several things like "why you going to canada to study?", "why study the program you are going for?", "what country tie you have?", "why not study a similar program in homeland?", etc. It's basically a letter to VO which acts as a substitute for the interview. It is not compulsory (not in checklist) but it is a good idea to include that. Sometimes VO will be confused about your intentions and without calling for interview, they might reject your application and study plan stops that from happening (but only if you a convincing, strong and precise study plan ofcourse!).
Answer 2: Sometimes sop/study plan/cover letter are all referred as the same document. But sometimes, cover letter is referred to an application which you may submit to point out some exceptional cases like "why you were refused (if applicable)?" or something like that which won't be relevant for study plan.
Answer 3: Sponsor letter is referred as affidavit and it is mandatory as long as you are not funding yourself. Even if your parents are providing your expense, you got to have the declaration of financial support.
Answer 4: You have to check that in the requirement of the university you are planning to apply. In case of university of alberta, you can either request the university itself to mail your transcripts to uoA or you can collect your transcripts in sealed envelops and send them by yourself, whichever is convenient for you.
Answer 5: Costing in uoAlberta will be around CAD8,000/year (varies from program to program) and the living can cost around CAD12,000/year. It's better if you would check the university fee structure for your program.
