Hi!
So here is my situation which I'm trying to sort out...

I am a canadian citizen, finishing a bachelor in nursing in december. I already have two part-time jobs and have a full-time job lined up for january as a nurse (hence a bigger salary...). I live in Quebec.

I have a Mauritian boyfriend and we cannot stand being appart any longer...We have come to the conclusion that it is better for him to come to Canada because I will have an excellent job here and the overall living conditions are better here...He just started a full-time job, he has a certificate in food and beverage service (which is roughly the equivalent of a trade diploma), he speaks french and english very well but does not have much money in his bank account. He lives with his parents.

I'm just really confused as to how to get him here...
1) Should he come here on a visitor's visa and renew it until he has lived with me for a whole year so we can then start the sponsorship?
2) Where can I find the information on how much money he needs to travel here if I state in the invitation letter that he will be staying with me? Can he be refused on the basis that I dont make enough money (because i will only be starting to work full time in january and would like for him to be here in february 2013)

Thanks for your help!!

I don't know anything about the Quebec system, but why not try to get him a temporary job offer with LMO. I am not sure if he will have to show he has been doing his job for a full year or not. I suggest this as the VO's seem reluctant to allow visit visas to boyfriends and girlfriends, but if he was coming for a job it would be different. It wouldn't appear that he had an emotional tie to Canada. Either way, he is going to have to PROVE that he has strong ties to this home country (search on the forum for lots of posts on that, also TRV refusals so you can avoid the mistakes of others). Look at the rules for PNP. In some Provinces you can apply for PR after working between 6-9 months in an F&B job. Good Luck.
