Hello Everyone,
I have completed my MA in International Development in 2022 in the UK and few months later, I did an internship in Project Management and got a job the following month. After a year as a project manager, I decided to do a degree in project management to scale up in my new role. I got admitted to Northeastern University, Toronto campus and want to apply for my study permit. Should I declare my existing master's or not? If not, my current resident permit shows that I am on a Graduate Leave to Remain visa which will be seen by the VOs when I submit it with my application. If yes, will it not jeopardise my chances of getting my visa approved since its not too long I finished my first master's?

Secondly, I am from Nigeria and currently leave in the UK, where can I use for my home tie considering the fact that my current UK resident permit would have expired before completing my study in Canada? However, a company in Nigeria has promised to offer me a job upon graduation and has given me a letter of recommendation to that effect. Help please!

In addition, I have 2 children who are out of status in the UK now, will this not affect their chances of going with me to Canada if their status is known, as their visa has expired and we have not renewed it. They are 3 and 6 years old?

I would also like to know if Mpower Loan could be used to support my proof of funds.
Thank you.

You should declare your MA from the UK, otherwise you risk a possibility of being issued with PFL and eventual banned due to misrepresentation. Whatever the case, UK and Canada are both members of the 5 eyes, they will find out when sending requesting for info pool.

Having a Masters Degree and applying for Degree program will jeopardize your chance. There'll be no career progression in this case. To add to the fact that, in Canada there are Associations that offers PM designation without having to do full Degree in PM. Have you considered studying in the UK?

If you are living in the UK, then you need to use your UK address, since you are current permit is valid. Dont fast forward scenario that it'll be expired before end of your study in Canada. They will evaluate based on the current circumstances. Not sure about your children Immigration Status in the UK, I cant comment on that one, whether it will affect your chance or not. However, keep in mind if you are coming for a Degree program, your spouse will not be eligible for SOWP, hence affecting your children technically.

The fact that your children are out of status in the UK may make getting a TRV to visit Canada very difficult and getting a a study permit may not be possible. They need to regularize their status in the UK or return to Nigeria. Although it has not been specified that children are no longer able to accompany their parents who are international student unless they are masters or PhD students, I would imagine that it will be extremely difficult for children to join their parents if they are international students in Canada unless they are masters or PhD students. Spouses are not a huge drain on services or housing but children require a larger home, must be provided with an education and children access medical care much more often than young adults, families with kids are harder to support as an international student so families are more likely to be dependent on charitable organizations like the food bank or organizations providing free or low cost housing/home goods or furniture, etc. Having a loan and not savings to pay for your education and living expenses in Canada makes getting approved much difficult but it also makes it much more difficult given that you are employed and don’t need to do this extra degree. It doesn’t make sense to take on more debt, move to Canada and leave full-time employment with a family to support unless there will be significant career progression and increased salary.
