I applied in October for citizenship, family of four. We received our invites to take the test last week. However I also received a request for my fingerprints to be taken dated before the email with the test invite. Fingerprints are requested under citizenship act section 21 and or 22. Is this normal procedure ? Also fingerprint request was in my previous name from 27 years ago !!! I’ve contacted cic on that one .

Tks

Yes there can be fingerprint requests as part of the background checks. If you have changed name in Canada probably your name showed up in their database and they want to rule out any concerns .

I was just reading the RCMP criminal record check:

"To whom it may concern: this certifies that a search on the National Criminal Records repository and Gingerprint Repository maintained by the RCMP concerning the Applicant whose fingerprints, name, and date of birth appear below could not be associated to any Immigration-related file or existing Criminal Record which may be disclosed in accordance with Federal Laws"

Questions and commentaries:
-Isn't it funny that they end their statement with "which may be disclosed in accordance with Federal Laws". This leaves me thinking, "so you found bad stuff that, however, cannot be disclosed?"
Just weird, no? It defies its purpose.
-Also, how come they could not find "any Immigration-related file" if they are referring, after all, to an "Applicant (for Citizenship)"?
