hello mayank

even we are in the same boat as you are..
we are trying to gather as much info as we can and then make a final decision as to move or not if we get PR
I personally feel after going through the vast info available on this forum and based on other immigrants experience it would be wiser if one person in the family begins re-training programmes as early as possible after landing, while the other spouse takes up survival jobs.
But i really dont know how much of this is feasible and how to pay such high fees.
I heard about OSAP loans, any input about this from seniors most welcome.

All the best for your PR process

As some forumers here say, its a fact that new immigrants find difficulty in getting jobs. you have to be very careful on the skilled worker program as acceptance for immigration purpose does not mean professionally you are automatically certified acceptable to canada's job-related industry. so dont be tricked. its very time consuming and tiring to do so. one pain point is the so called "canadian experience". just a friendly warning.

i suggest for all those forumers who think likewise starts a new thread on this to share our experience.

I've heard about getting a certification or equivalency from one of my colleagues who migrated to Canada.

I am in the insurance sector and have an Australian Insurance certification. I try to be positive about the job market when the time comes.

Alright first of all ..... to Mayank & Wife and all other physiotherapist, Guys relax Physiotherapist jobs are a plenty in Canada. I have at least 6 friends from India who immigrated to Canada between 2010 and Now and all of them are doing pretty well, baring one of them who had got the timing wrong when he was applying . Now let me explain to you, what route you should take.

1. Before applying for PR (which anyways is suspended now, till Jan 2013) apply for credential evaluation for Canada. Both Indian Bachelors and Masters in Physiotherapy is recognized in Canada, hence no need of repeating the Bachelors or Masters, just get your credentials evaluated, after that there is an online course which you would have to take and after that straight license exam.

2. Why apply credential evaluation first ? Because now days it takes little more than a year for the result of the evaluation to be announced and PR way less, we got our PR in 5 months. So ideally you should have your credentials evaluated by the time you land, or in very near future after you land in Canada.

3. After you successfully write your License exam, 45 to 50 dollar an hour job is easily available in Toronto and other big cities of Canada.

4. and if your evaluation result is goona be out in near future after you land in Canada, with the Bachelors or Masters degree in Physiotherapy you can easily land with a physio assistant job about 17 to 20 dollar an hour job.

Physiotherapists are in Demand and if you guys are in your early 30s now is the time to make the move.

P.S --> About my friend who mis-timed it, he started his credential evaluation after reaching Canada, don't do that

Hello Shewta

I think you should apply for credential evaluation as soon as you can. and please please read the complete application package before you send it. Also I think you would need contacts in your colleges, because the alliance requires that College send the degree transcripts and not the candidate and you know how things are in India, I know of people who waited for 6 months for their colleges to reply. So please make sure you have some contacts in your colleges.

Also Best of luck on finding a PT assistance Job in Canada, Toronto might not be as good, but suburbs around Toronto are good for getting PT assistance jobs. Right now the timeline for getting the Credentials evaluated is nearly 54 weeks which is 1 year + 2 weeks. So this means even if you apply now you will have your credential results in August/September 2013. So till then you and your Husband would have to make way with the PT A jobs. Which is very do able, just that if you had applied for credential evaluation before it would have cut a lot of time that you would need to wait before your results are out
