You can start applying but it is unlikely that you will be offered a job right away. You could set up interviews though.
Thanks for the advice Leon. \
Is it too early to set up interviews if I am only landing in January?

I do not think it is too early. 2 months. I think you should start to apply and state that you will be landing in January.

Read the papers and the job bank ads. Go to places where you want to work and apply. They will often have help wanted signs outside but even if they don't, you can still apply. Take a bus through the industrial neighbourhoods as well. Warehouses and factories also tend to have help wanted signs outside and again, even if they don't, you can still apply.

Yes, security guard is a good survival job. It pays better than fast food and does not require many skills.

Hi Leon,

Am I right in thinking you have to study for a license in order to be a security guard?

Thanks

Last I heard there was no license necessary. Maybe they have since changed it.

I had seen in some security guard jobs asking for specific "security guard training" as in you have to have it before applying.

Hi everyone, my position is lil bit different: I have one year of experience as network admin, 10 months canadian experience as supervisor NOC1215 (not related with IT) and now from January I'm workin as Information Security Admin in international institution which is recognized in Canada (CitiBank), I have postgrad diploma in network administration and bachelor in food processing QA (both non-canadian) IELTS 7.5 overall band, basic French. I dont need LMO for any job (agreement between my country and Canada), visa in ca 3 weeks - thats a big adventage, appreciate any suggestions and advices how to interest prospective employers with my candidacy
