Hello Everyone,

Situation---> Canadian living in Thailand for the last 4.5 years and wanting to sponsor my wife of 4 yrs and step-son .

I'm a bit confused on the financial Evaluation form [IMM 1238E] as per 'required income to meet sponsorship.
I've been employed in Thailand since arriving here and the minimumrequirement for sponsorship is -->$ 33,993 CAD then it says --> IF THIS AMOUNT IS LESS THAN THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR SPONSORSHIP...DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION.

I have everything ready to be sent out except for this form. I remain hopeful that i'm not excluded/refused on account that i haven't made that much money( living very well here for Thai standards)

I should also note that i have approx. $18,000 of which i'll be taking back with me.
I'd appreciate if anyone can provide some information or guidance on this tricky issue.
Thank You..
Donny

If you are only sponsoring spouse and dependent child, you are exempt from income requirements.

Hello Leon,

Thanks for responding to my enquiry ...Hpwever, i have not seen anywhere in any of the guides that i'm exempt. If that's the case , i'm very much relieved...but is there a link of somewhere i could read about this exemption?
I feel better already.. ;D
Cheers
Donny

In your sponsorship guide at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3900E.pdf on page 8 and 9:
•you have an income that is at least equal to the minimum necessary income, the amount of which is published yearly by the Canadian government.
You will have to provide us with documents that show your financial resources for the past 12 months and prove you are financially able to sponsor members of the family class. You may solicit the help of a co-signer (must be your spouse or common-law partner). If you reside in Quebec, see also Sponsors living in Quebec.
This condition does not apply if you are sponsoring only
·your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner who has no dependent children, or
·your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner whose dependent children have no children of their own, or
·your dependent child who has no children of his or her own.

Send what documents you have and mention that although your salary doesn't seem high by Canadian standards it's good where you live and you expect to make more once you relocate to Canada. They know you are exempt from this requirement.

Also as a Canadian living abroad, you have to give data showing that you intend to move to Canada once your wife gets her PR. This could be a job offer, being accepted to college, having arranged housing or at the very least letters of support from your family/friends stating that they know of your plans to relocate and support you, will let you stay with them while you look for housing etc.
