Filling taxes late, will I qualify?

Greetings,

I tried to search the forums and the internet but was unable to find the answer to my specific application. On the official website, the requirements read as follows:

Regardless of your age, if required under the Income Tax Act, you must meet your personal income tax filing obligations in four tax years that are fully or partially within the six years right before the date you apply.

2011 - filed
2012 - filed
2013 - filed
2014 - filed, but submitted in 2015 but late
2015 - not filed
2016 - not filed

I have filled 4 of the last 6 years, but missed the last 2 years. My last submission was for 2014, but it was late by a few months. If I file the last 2 years (2015/2016), will that results in 6 of the last 6 years as filed properly? Or does "filed properly" a result of filing on time?

Other notes:
Been a PR for 20 years, have UK passport

Absolutely no problem, one of us filed 2012 tax return in 2016 to meet the requirements, and, got the citizenship without any issues!

Thanks for the fast response!!

That's very good to hear.

Another question. I'm 100 days above the minimum days required to apply. The current wait times are 1 year.

In terms of how many days within Canada, is this based on the application submission date (say today), or the day you write the test (1 year from now)?

Wow.. that would be amazing. Thanks for that google doc link

Would you guys recommend getting the last 2 years filed before submitting, or just getting the application submitted ASAP and resolving that before the interview

File tax returns for 15 and 16 before you apply. You just need to file the tax returns, if CRA takes their own sweet time to work on your returns, that's not your problem. Just fulfill your obligation...

Important points: You can file 2016 online(Something you probably know already); You might have to file 2015 by mail, though I am not 100% sure. We filed our 2012 return by mail in 2016...

Also while it says one year, it took most of us about three months for the test invite/ test date and much shorter than a year for the oath taking.
Check this link for approximate times:

Is there a way to speed up the process? I see mentions of an old form? Why are people listed in this form processed faster than the average wait times listed of 12 months? Is it just random? How do people write and oath on same day?

I'm in Vancouver.. It appears other provinces have faster processing times?

If you have a good enough reason, the process can be expedited! I have no personal experience though...

Hello

I am planning to send application to CPC in august end.

Little confused on Income Tax year. I am eligible based on 4 years rules. But I can not provide 2017 income tax proof as it will be filed in march 2018.

If i am not making mistake in understanding than CIC need proof of tax file in last 6 years.

So 2017 tax return should not be a problem . Am i correct on it ?

I became PR on 2011/Oct but than i went back to home country in 45 days and came back again in 2013/august .

So in 2013 total number of days i stayed was : 144 days.

Do i am eligible to apply ? or i have to wait until March 2018 to file tax return ?

Please update me on it.

Nobody is expecting you to file 2017, because you can't as of now, you can do it only on 1st Jan 2018.
In you case there are six relevant tax years 2011-16. I assume that you have filed 2014-16, all you need is one more! So just file 2013 tax return... You can file the tax return even if you are not required to....

If you have 4 tax returns and 1460 days of Canadian residence, yes you can! Keep 15-30 days of buffer to be on the safe side, meaning, apply when you have 1475 to 1490 days of residence...

Is it required to file a tax if you are out of the country for the whole year and did not work?
