I have my TOR/cpa certificate/board ratings/diploma kaya lang hindi po naka-seal. Kung kailangan po na naka-seal then I will request my alma mater to do it. But yung cpa certificate and board ratings I doubt kung gagawin ng PRC yung pagseseal. Should I also request PICPA to send a letter of good outstanding sa CGA-Ontario?

I am also qualified sa CMA accelerated program kaya lang weighing the costs mahal po talaga mag-CMA pero worth naman ang salary and I am also leaning sa audit and corporate finance so CGA talaga ang gusto ko.

And I would also like to agree na through referrals ang pagpasok ng accounting jobs. I have sent about 100resumes sa mga job postings and yet walang reply. So ang gagawin ko ngayon is networking. In God's time makakakuha din tayo ng job.

God bless us all.. Goodluck.

I came sa Ontario as fresh graduate and board passer so konting work experience lang as a student. So I will request sa school ko na magpadala ng TOR but Im thinking how about yung mga cpa certificate and board ratings. Kailangan muna ng job before mag-enroll sa CGA. ;D

hi carla,

. di na ako nagfurnish ng board rating at cpa cert. i suggest u better send CGA Ontario an e-mail para sure. if u mean in DFA red ribbon na seal, yng sa akin certified copy lng from the school, no dfa seal. yng picpa cert is with seal kasi NOT VALID WITHOUT SEAL yng cert nila :D

did u try yng mga bridging programs jan? how long have u been in ontario? meron din mga internships, nag try ka?

Hi po.

There are two kinds of bridging programs here. First, bridging program in school. You continue your courses (subjects) based on your needs. Second, bridging programs in organizations such as World Services Cargo. They offer accounting, finance or business internship for 3months without pay. There are certain organizations like Career Bridge. They offer around $1800-$2000 a month but you need to have 3 years of accounting experience back home.

Regarding sa internal auditor po wala pa po akong naririnig dito na immigrants applying for that job.

As for myself, I came here December 2010. I just graduated university and passed the CPA board exam in 2010 sa Pinas. I joined a non-profit organization pagdating ko dito in which they help us how to do our resumes, cover letters and job huntings. Sa group namin, ako ang pinakabata. Lahat ng mga kasama ko is may mga magagandang trabaho back in their respective countries. And yet ang inaapplyan nila dito is accounting clerks or in that level like Accounts Payable or Receivable/Bookkeeper. You have to start from the very beginning. At mas maswerte syempre kung makakuha sila ng accounting jobs higher than that like Internal Auditor, Budget Analyst, etc. kasi they have enough experiences naman. Kaya po kami hindi makakuha ng jobs here is because we are applying online job postings, mas malaki ang competition. Most of the jobs here are hidden or they hire internally sa mga current employees nila before they go out.

Sa ngayon, I am into tax and accounting volunteering. Through referrals din po yan. Volunteer works done here are counted as work experience. And also, I will be sending my application sa CGA-Ontario. But yung iba is hindi pa nag-eenroll because at first you need a job to sustain yung educational fees. Sabi nila hindi nila uubusin yung savings nila (or yung baon na money/show money) just to study not unless na solo sila na pumunta dito. So yung mga nakikilala ko na accountant sa Philippines, they do survival jobs for now to support their families especially sa kids nila.

Also pala there is a group here called Association of Filipino Canadian Accountants (AFCA). May website sila. You can get in touch by them to encourage you. Kasi napansin ko yung mga pinagsasabi ko is medyo discouraging (point of view of a new immigrant kasi-sorry po). But sila (AFCA) they are CGAs, CMAs and CAs here. Maybe we can get some advices from them.

I am encouraging everyone to do our best pagdating sa paghahanap ng work. Goodluck po sa ating lahat.

hi there carla,

its good to know something from someone who's on the ground already. i thought dami ko ng nabasa na info eh ;D ;D ;D iba pa rin ang personal testimony.

by the way, i've read about the bridging program offered by CPAC (Chinese professionals assn of canada) free daw ito at offered to those who are seriously contemplating pursuing the CGA designation. baka interesado ka. i also have come across the AFCA website and they are also giving seminars to members (advance MS office, etc) and conducting tax clinics.

Hi, pwede pajoin dito? I am also a CPA. We are going to land in Toronto this year. My hubby is a nurse and works in a government institution in Dubai. I work in a stable company here in Dubai, kaya nga lang andito ang discrimination kasi nga dahil pinoy ka. It's not about what you know here and how experienced you are ang labanan, kundi passport (if you're American, Canadian, you are paid way better even if you don't know the job). If you're accused of something here and you're pinoy guilty ka kaagad and the embassy is no help :( but if you have a passport of any of the 1st world countries, grabe support nila. Before I had second thoughts of immigrating to Canada kasi wlang kapawis2 trabaho ko dito, but when I had a baby I realized that I cannot be selfish and have to think of his future. And one of the best things I can give him is a Canadian passport (so if he works abroad in the future, he will be treated equally by his peers and protected by the govt), and we can bear the hardships even if we start from scratch and leave our good jobs here. (Dito kasi sa UAE, even if 100 years kna resident dito you don't get the citizenship). But my husband advised me I can do better, I need not settle for the least.

Plan namin mauna hubby ko and I stay here in Dubai while he studies in Canada and I support him for upto 2 years. If makakapasa na cya sa nurse licensure exam and gets a stable job, susunod na kami ni baby. Ayaw namin sabay2x na magsettle don baka mahirapan kami pare-pareho and maghahanap pa ng work.

I am starting to collect the documents needed for the assessment na. Nalilito nga pa lang ako what designation to pursue there while not compromising my time with my child. I had more than 2 years audit experience with Punongbayan and Araullo before I left for Dubai to join my husband. It is ok if I get assessments (CIA,CMA and CGA) this year and plan to study in the next 2-3 years pa? Or may expiration pa ang assessment and kailangan enrol agad ako sa mga needed courses?

Please, any comments and suggestions.

Thanks.

hello!

nicely crafted plans out there! assessment of both CMA and CGA is valid for 2 years lang po because of possible changes in curriculum and evaluation standards. CGA cost of assesment is CAD $ 401.56 including taxes in Ontario. CMA offers free evaluation of ur credentials. bale, from the date of d assessment result, u r given 2 years to enrol in the subjects not granted with transfer credits. and most schools (as far as I know) do not accept enrolless who are not PR or citizens.

hope this helps ;)
