Hi all, my wife got a RQ and was out of the country for some medical reasons and when she is back she did submit it two weeks ago. But i am worried that this will affect the family application and was thinking about splitting files. Also do you have sample format of the letter to be sent to them?! Thanks. I called the CIC and they sent the following:
-----
File Separation or Transfer
To request a file separation or transfer, you must follow these instructions:

Send a fax/letter to the responsible local office including your:

Unique Client Identifier Number (UCI);
file ID number;
name;
address;
telephone number; and
the reason why the application should be processed separately/elsewhere.

The local office will evaluate your request and make a final decision. Please note that there is no guarantee that the file will be separated/transferred.

What do you recommend guys? Anyone with similar experience?! Thanks!

hi, when me and wife went for test / interview, the officer gave us the option to split the application since I got a RQ. Usually the people in CIC are very family friendly and helpful if that see you that you are genuine.

@cadvis Thanks a lot! I am just worried that this might have a negative impact on our file. I am completely hesitant to take this step and would like to see if some do have the same experience! Yours is different since you were given that option at the Test/Interview ...We applied on July 2011 and today I called to be informed that we might have to wait till July 2014 :((

people have different situations in life... you just have to do what is good for you and your family and deal with these things more legitimately and honestly.... We all work hard and struggle for a better life right... things will fall in place one day or other. for some people it is fast and some it is late.. just have to learn to be little patient thats it I guess..:)

Anyone has a sample letter in which you request the separation of the files?! Thanks!

Please all, Anyone has applied as a family application then sent a letter asking for file separation?! Any sample letters requesting the separation of the files?! YOUR HELP PLEASE! Thanks!

Egyo, just type letter with all your info and why are you seeking seperation. It is ultimately they are going to decide. You don't have to think so hard.

everybody situation different and unique. Also, it is private. I don't think a standard template apply here.

I requested to separate my file from my husband in March 2013. I called Cic today and found out it was separated effective Mar. 6, 2013 and my husband was requested for fingerprinting last Mar. 20, which means files are moving so far. As per cic, i should expect a communication from my local office (surrey) on July 2014, 22 months since we took the test on Sept. 2012.

Can anybody update my timeline on spreadsheet, pls?

Applied: july 2011
Received : august 2011
Transferred and in process in Surrey: january 2012
Test: sept 2012
Separation of file from husband: mar. 2013
Husband fingerprinting: mar. 20, 2013
Husband's oath - waiting

Thank you so much Jelani. Did you just mention the delay in the case as the sole reason behind your request of file separation?! We didn't take the test yet but my wife received a pre-test RQ that is why I am thinking about file separation. Thanks!

My reason was because i was told by cic that i need to see the judge and it will take more or less 24 mos. my husband either waits or i request to separate so he and my son can take their oath. So i decided to separate my file. They acted pretty fast on my request through a letter mailed to Surrey, my local office.
