Question 1:
What I observed and learned from internet about SOP that it is an imp doc and can influence the decision on visa.
My doubt : If it is so imp then why it has not been made mandatory doc. While filling the application, it was under optional category. So I think IRCC should not be making decision on SOP.
Your views plz?

Question 2:
My program is 10 months and total tuition fee is 50k CAD. In the application form I was asked total tuition fee then living expenses and how much I have in my account.
As this is under SDS, I've paid 50K CAD and off course 10K CAD in GIC, apart from this I have mentioned I have 10K CAD left in my account.
My Query is - Is this financial statement ok? I infact have much more than 10K CAD but just randomly put 10K CAD in my saving account as I though that time that I am already well covered having paid full tuition fee and GIC.
Can I update my application now to update that I have more in my Savings accounts?

1) SOP is not mandatory. It's certainly possible to be approved without a SOP and many people are successful without one. No, it would not make sense for IRCC to make this a mandatory document.
2) Yes, you should be fine if you've already paid the tuition and also have the 10K GIC.

1. The SOP, as far as I know, is to explain your case to IRCC and the Visa Officer, if you feel your documents aren't clear, or have discrepancies. However, over the years, a lot of applicants began using it to explain their situations. As long as your documents are clear, your motivation to study is sound, and you have ties to your home country, you should be fine without an SOP.

2. The C$10,000 in your account is enough to show the VO that if you run out of the C$10,000 GIC, you have funds to keep yourself afloat. You're good, don't worry.
