Hi guys,

Yesterday my common-law boyfriend and I got requested to have an interview at the Los Angeles VO next month. On the letter it asks you to bring a few things and I have some questions about it.

1. It asks for "two statutory declarations from individuals with personal knowledge of your relationship supporting your claim that your relationship is genuine and continuing"

I did initially provide quite a few letters from people supporting our relationship, are we allowed to have some of the same people make this statutory declaration as well?

2. It also asks for things like a current NOA, employment verification letter etc for the sponsor. These are things that I initially included in our application, can I use the same copies I have already?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Is your husband American? Interviews for Americans are very rare. I would order your GCMS notes ASAP to see what CIC is concerned about.

He is American! (and he's my boyfriend, not married). I think we might be one of the unlucky ones. I did request notes previously and there was a few notes made in there that made sense I guess. I also have another set coming in a few weeks as well but they were requested after we were sent to LA but before we got requested for an interview. Should I order another set? Can I have two requests at the same time? I have a feeling our red flags may be that we are both young, couldn't provide joint utility bills/lease agreement because we are living with my parents (although I did get my parents to write a letter stating this) and potentially that I haven't met his family yet although we have been in a relationship for a long time. No criminal record. I'm just assuming these are reasons why because in the GCMS notes previously it had mentioned these 3 things..

Apart from the letter from your parents, what evidence did you provide in your application to prove you are cohabitating?

We provided what we could... documents from my work benefits listing him as a beneficiary, joint credit card and bank account statements. The letter from my parents stating that all utility bills and rent is paid to them, hence the no lease agreement/bills in both names. I wrote a letter explaining as well that we couldn't prove that information due to living with my parents. Also lots of letters and the photos as well. Otherwise I really didn't know what else to send as that's all we have!

Out of that, only the credit/bank statements are solid common-law proofs and only then if they covered at least a one year period. Did you not submit any mail in both and/or individual names? Tax documents, payslips, phone bills? Letters from employers/doctors/dentists? Letters from neighbors? Amazon/shipping receipts? IDs showing addresses? Group/gym memberships?

We did submit a few pieces of mail, I didn't know how much they wanted. I have more that I will bring to the interview along with my 2017 NOA that has us filed as common-law on my taxes. Also have a letter from my employer that was initially included but will bring it again. What would the letter from the doctor or dentist be for? Like what would it say? Will look into getting a letter from my neighbour and any shipping receipts as well. What kind of ID would we be able to have that has his address in Canada? He couldn't get a driver's license here because he's a visitor, ICBC wouldn't give him one and his US drivers license wouldn't put a Canadian address on it I don't think.

Thank you so much for being so helpful! We are working really hard to gather as much as we possibly can for the interview. I was under the assumption they may ask for more proof before requesting an interview..
