Few Queries(Landed Immigrants/Folks already staying in Canada)

Hello All

I need some help from fellow immigrants who have already landed in Canada or the ones who are already staying there:

a.How is the weather in the province of Ontario(spec. Toronto and around) during Oct and Nov?

b.How is the cost of living in Toronto?Is there a nearby suburb where most of the folks stay while they do their job hunting in Toronto?
I just noticed that the cost of living is very high in Toronto

c.How much does a hotel room cost for a week and thereafter how much an accomodation(shared/indep)cost in and around Toronto?
Any particular site we can refer to get some idea for this

d.How is the public transport in Ontario(specifically in Toronto and around)?
Do we need to have a car necessarily?Just wondering is we can do without it for couple of months

e.How much monthly expense(I know this varies from person to person but on an average)can I expect while being in and around Toronto?

wheather is cold during the month you have mentioned, generally in Ontario there are 6 major snowfall during winter, in short winter is very cold

in most of the area ( except downtown) the rent will be 1BR = $800- $1000 and 2BR= $1000 - $1300.
IN GTA ( Greater Toronto Area) there are many areas - markham,North York etc... and then you have Mississiagua and Scarborough

c.How much does a hotel room cost for a week and thereafter how much an accomodation(shared/indep)cost in and around Toronto? Any particular site we can refer to get some idea for this

depends on the area but it will be @ $75 including tax if you are taking for a week, you can look for basement apartment for initial stay while doing job search... look in craigs list and kijiji for shared and other type of accomodation

d.How is the public transport in Ontario(specifically in Toronto and around)?
Do we need to have a car necessarily?Just wondering is we can do without it for couple of months

public transit is good ( TTC- BUs and Subway, YRT/VIVA,Mississiagua transit), weather you need car or not during your initial stay it all depends where you are staying i mean how close you are with stores and public transit
if you are with family and kids then you have to look how close is school and other activities for kids.
In short you can surely manage without car for 3-6 months

e.How much monthly expense(I know this varies from person to person but on an average)can I expect while being in and around Toronto?

for single person
accomodation= $400-$500 ( if shared)
Internet and Cell = $65
Travel = TTC pass $121 and/or YRT pass = $105
Misc and others = $350

Approximately Total = $1100 per month

For family with one kid ( my example)
Rent = $1179
Travel = $105
Internet +TV+Cell = $145
Misc +Others = $1000
Other kids recreation activity = $150

Approximately Total = $2500 per month
