Hello all,

There is an issue about which i can't make a decision. I would be very glad to hear your thoughts:

I am a civil engineer and I would like to apply for federal skilled worker program.My problem is:

I am as fluent in french as i am in english but i couldn't complete my TEF test and I can only get the result on 10th of August. Yet, even without french test i assume i can get around 67-70 points. My question is: İs it important how high you score? Do you have a bigger chance if you score 74 instead of 67?

If i wait my french test result, i can score between 73-76. But i will lose valuable time and I can only apply mid-August. Do you think it is too late?

Should I go with my application (will be completed end of June) without french result and score around 67-70 or should i wait my french result to score around 73-76 but be too late to miss out the quota.

I would be so thankful to hear a few thoughts since i can make a clear-cut decision because of the risks of both option.

Thank you so much for your help

Best regards

Ali Arslan

I am no authority on this, and in fact I have the same question for myself (not due to French though).

What everyone seems to suggest is that >67 points are immaterial. Perhaps few more points can prove as a safety net, but aiming for too much is futile.

That's what you are gonna hear from most of the members here.

Unless of course someone has more insider's information.

Regards

How sure are you that you will get 67 points without French? If you are sure of that, then there is no need to wait for your French test. It doesn't seem to matter how many points one has as long has 67 points is met.

Thanks everyone for sharing thougts. To calculate my points i make a self-assessment like this:

1) Age (I was born in 1979). I give myself minimum 11-12 points (thinking on the day of assessment i would be 36 although it is clearly stated that it is the age on the date of application that counts

2) Education (I have a civil engineer degree and then I had a MBA degree) I assume i can have 23 points

3) English-French (French is my first language and if i can Show the test i can have 24 (french) + 4 (english) i have ielts result = 28 but if i skip french i can only Show only my IELTS result which gives me 22 points

4) Experience (I have over 4 years of experience under 2131 NOC COde civil engineering. I get 13 points for sure but even for some reason i get points for 3-4 yeats i get 11 points

All in all i score

max= 12+23+28+13 = 76
min=11+23+22+11 = 67

Do you think i am in a safe land?

If i miss out the quota this year I think there is no chance to apply under FSW next year since they change the system but i assume i can still go on with Quebec option. Any thoughts on the system change?

Thanks a lot
