When going through my files needed for the FBI background check, I noticed I had a link to the FBI site for their Request form.

It's a bit more detailed. Should I use their Request form or the one from CIC?

I believe you need to send the form from the FBI's site. That's what we sent, along with my prints on the card from the FBI site (just printed on regular paper) and the credit card payment form.

I went to a local police station and they had their own fingerprinting form. I then went online and printed out the fbi application form to send. It was very easy.

Thank you both for your replies!! I'll get right on that now. :D

Benni, you need to use the official FBI Fingerprint card, I think it's form FD-258. Include the credit card form thingy if you are paying that way and send it to the proper address. I recommend sending it with tracking, it will ease your mind since they can't tell you if they got it until like 6 weeks AFTER you 'think' they should've received it. LOL

I downloaded/printed out the FBI Request from. So, I need the FBI fingerprint card also (rather than CIC's)?
Just looked and the FBI card is identical to what CIC says to use.

How do I mail it, through the regular post office, with tracking included?

You do not need to take any fbi form with u..if u are getting it done at a police station..they have their own card..i sent it in and got my results..i believe somewhere it states on the website as well..it's up to u.

Taken from FBI site..

6. Can I use the fingerprint card I download from this site?

Yes, but if you go to a law enforcement agency or private fingerprinting agency to be fingerprinted, they may prefer to use a fingerprint card on standard card stock. You may use the fingerprint card provided by the printing agency.

I knew that. Thanks! :D

Yes, they need to get the proper print card. Is the card from CIC the same updated form? If it is, it should be fine. If it is not the correct version, then best to get the one directly from the FBI website here : http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/criminal-history-summary-checks/standard-fingerprint-form-fd-258

Yes, you can mail it regular mail with tracking. I didn't send mine with tracking and called them weekly until they were FINALLY able to tell me that yes, they did indeed receive it. They won't charge your credit card or anything until they are actually done the check and mailing your results. They can and will mail your results to an address in Canada, if that is where you currently are.

Good luck!

Ok. I'll download the FBI card. Thanks for tracking info. I will be in Canada before the results come in so, yes, I will give them that address.

Do I send it in a regular business envelope, or is a small manila envelope better?

Do NOT fold the print card ;) Manilla envelope better. If you are sending it from the states, send it in one of the priority mail sleeves. ;) Nice and cheap, tracking included, 2 day delivery! LOL

SO glad you told me that!! Thanks ya'll -- great help here!! :D

I would like to personally call and make sure that my fingerprints and fees for my FBI clearance were received. Would you please let me know the number that I can call to make sure that this was received? Thank you in advance.

If you didn't send it via mail with tracking and it's been less than 6-8 weeks since you sent it, you can call them until you are blue in the face and they STILL won't be able to answer your question. They don't input these things in the system as soon as they are received. They are opened, put in a pile and then processed as they get to them. Once they start processing them, they bill your card and it's input into the system. Only THEN will someone be able to tell you if they were actually received.

I think you will be disappointed by calling them, but here is the number (304) 625-2910.

Good luck.
