My husband got his FBI Clearance a few months ago and have sent our application in March 2013. However, I just happened to be looking at our paperwork and realized that they put the wrong last four digit of his SSN!!

They were wrong with one digit.....what do we do?

Do you think CIC would even notice? Does CIC do security background checks on Americans using their last four digit of their SSN??

My husband called FBI and they told him to email them a letter stating what the problem was. I'm not sure what they will do after that.

Frustrated!!

Call FBI - 1 (304) 625-5590

See if they can issue with correct one

Yeah my husband did that but they told him to email them.

Does CIC do security checks on American citizens using the last four digits of their SSN? What does the security background check entail for American citizens?

I wonder.....

It's a bio data search (name and DOB). CIC does not have access to IRS or SSA records, and thus the SSN (which is only legally used for tax and retirement unless otherwise allowed by government legislation) would do them no good as a general rule.

What matters to them for the FBI certificate is that the fingerprints came back NRT ("no reportable trace") which means there's no criminal record. Since the person that took the fingerprints matched them to the identification, this provides strong evidence that the applicant does not have any criminality issues.

You'll be fine.

Thanks so much!

I emailed CPP-Ottawa on Friday stating the situation. I wish I hadn't emailed them so that way we wouldn't have to deal with getting another clearance from the FBI
Do you think I will still need to send another FBI clearance now that I emailed CPP Ottawa stating that the last four SSN is incorrect since they really do not need it for their security check?

If I never emailed them, they would have never known. I just gave myself more work to do...damn

Get a corrected one and submit it. FBI should be willing to fix it and send it to you without charge.

But with the strike, will they even attach my husband's new FBI clearance to our file?

Since I will be sending the original, I'm afraid that it will get lost in all of the other stuff since there will be barely anyone working at the Otatwa office.

:'( Stressing

Instead of getting worked up if CIC will lose your FBI report, I think you should start working on getting a corrected one and at the same time apply for a new one to be safe!
dont worry good luck :)

Yes my husband called the FBI and they said to email them so they can have it on record. He is already in the process of emailing FBI his explanation (stating the SSN is wrong) and I think they will re-send a corrected one (they haven't stated what they will do after he emails them but I hope that is the case).
