Hi All

The FBI received my application for Background Check on 26th December, 2012. If there is anyone else who has applied within the last year, please share your timeline and any advice that we all can use to track and follow up on our applications so that it can be processed in the shortest possible time.

Thanks again for any information that can be provided.

My husband requested the FBI check three times last year...yes, it kept expiring (more than 3 months old) before we could get the rest of the paperwork together. The requests were in March, June and October - the March one took 4 weeks, the June one only 3 weeks, and the October one 5 weeks to receive. The FBI website states that checks "take approximately five to six weeks depending on the volume of requests received"...so I would expect that to be pretty accurate considering our experiences.

I need to get an FBI clearance and Im reading on the site for finger prints....how do i go about doing this.
Do I do it myself using pen ink or do I need to go to police station to get done?
Im from Australia and now living in Toronto Canada, applying for common law PR.
Any info would be helpful!!!

Doing yourself and with pen ink will not be acceptable for sure. Go to a nearest Police Station and they will do it for you...FBI takes about 6-8 weeks to process the request.

Thanks for the response IslandAnnie. Thanks for the response, I was worried that because of the number of applications their office was getting for background checks in light of recent events mine might be delayed, but hopefully everything moves smoothly.

Hi MWhite, you can print the FBI Finger print forms from their website and take it to a police station in Toronto that does finger prints to have it completed. Some officers may use their department's form, which was what happened in my case, but I also insisted in having it done on the FBI's form also. Send that along with the required copy of ID and Passport via DHL/Fedex (which will allow you to track the package) and pay by credit card (so you'll know when they actually charge your card, which is normally close to the date they process your application).
