FBI Background check needs to be within the past year?

I've heard conflicting advice.

I have an fbi background check from a couple years ago when I was making my first attempt at applying for pr. That got stalled and delayed and now I'm back at it with my provincial nomination application.

As I'm checking and double checking all my papers and the checklist before submitting I noticed that with the criminal background check it says they it's "generally considered to be valid" if it's generated within the past year.

Which sounds like a soft way of saying mine is expired.


But other advice I've heard/read said so long as you haven't lived in the country once the time you generated the background check it should be valid.

Any clarification you guys can provide? Do I need to put in for a brand new background check again?

The case where, if you haven't lived in the country that issued the PCC since it was issued, you could use it is from citizenship applications after you've been a PR.

If you're applying for PR anew, you need a new police clearance.
