Hey guys,

I am in the middle of the sponsorship process for my husband. His father just passed away. I am not sponsoring to come, but I did have to include him in the "Additional Family" form. Do I still have to notify the visa office of his passing even though I'm not sponsoring him?

Sorry to hear that! You can either do that now or once you get the file number. Most likely they will ask you to fill that form again. They did ask me to fill that form again when we had a new born baby even though I did write them.

My condolences on the passing of your father-in-law. I would let send your visa office a case specific enquiry when you get a chance attaching the updated form. You can find the link off of http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/missions.asp

Hopefully December 3rd
My spouses grandmother that he lived with passed away but I had already completed package, and she was still listed as living in the home at the time of submission
I didn't want any troubles later down the road with government politics so,
I kept her listed and added an addendum to the form
1) was a copy of her death certificate
2) his birth certificate which lists her as grandmother
3) the housing registrar which showed she was still listed as "living" there but that the submission of the death certificate was completed to have her removed.

There appears not to be any issues with this so far

Oh man... that's a lot of work. Do I really have to complete all this stuff even if I wasn't going to sponsor him anyway??? What a pain.

FWIW, I would just send in a note advising that he's passed away and either asking them to reflect that change on the Additional Family Information [IMM 5406] form or amend the form yourself and attach an updated version to a case specific enquiry (if it's quick).

After all, the only implication for your application is that your husband won't be sponsoring his Father in the future since he's deceased. So, it's not going to make a material difference to your application (especially not in your favour). That being said, you should advise CIC of changes in your application.

I think you have way more important things to focus on right now (like supporting your husband and your family) and taking care of yourself in these difficult days than amending the form. Use the time you have to celebrate the happy times you shared with your father-in-law.

But, that's just my two cents, FWIW.
