Hi! My wife's pregnant and will require medical treatment from the first week of our coming to Canada. Which province can provide the health card the earliest? We're coming to Canada as PRs.

Your first landing can be done in Toronto if you want. Regardless Toronto or Alberta, you would have to pay for private travel insurance for your softlanding trip.

If you aren’t employed moving to a province because of healthcare, especially when you have to make a 12 month commitment to the province, is a risky plan. Have you looked at the employment opportunities in your field in Alberta?

So yes you can move to any province. As previously stated moving to a province just to get healthcare can lock you into a situation that is not beneficial. Once you use start using healthcare in that province you’ll essentially need to remain there for 6-12 months depending on the province. Same things as a lease in Canada. I would never recommend signing a 1 year lease before figuring out employment. Many are anxious to sign a lease as soon as possible because short term accommodations are more expensive but as a newcomer to Canada it is really best to apply throughout Canada or even apply throughout whole city. In large cities like Toronto signing a lease in one area of the city may limit where you can take a job because of very long commute times or lack of public transportation.
