Family ties in Canada when applying for a Student Permit

I always wondered if my family ties in Canada could hurt my application when I apply for a student permit...
I have two sets of relatives in Manitoba, and they are willing to sponsor my accommodation, food, and some finances. I know that this can help in showing that I am financially capable of studying in Canada. However, I know some people who were rejected because they couldn't prove that they would leave Canada after studying because they have strong ties in Canada.
How can having family members in Canada be more of an advantage when applying for a student permit?

If they aren't your immediate family then it is not as much of a tie. As for accommodations and food, you still need to show that you have the funds for this. It doesn't show that you are financially capable, but may show that you alone (or your parents) cannot fund your studies.

The ties of your relatives will not outweigh your ties to your home country if they are not directly playing a role in your application. Even if you have siblings and parents as family ties in Canada, it won't outweigh your ties to your home country if you can convincingly demonstrate that you are economically well-established and have a good source(s) of income.

The most important factor to consider is to be able to demonstrate a clear and justifiable intent to study and depart Canada at the end of your authorized stay.
