Hi Everyone,

I am currently working in abroad for 8 years and started to process PR to Canada. I am married with 1 kid but my civil status has never been updated. I am still single in all my documentations, ID and passport.

I would like to ask if it is possible for me to apply as single and then when everything went well to Canada I will start applying for my family too. My husband is working in Philippine government and will only accompany me after his retirement. Please, can anyone answer me on this query or can advise best option to start my application.

Thank you guys!

No. Applying as single would be a misrepresentation.

Always be truthful in your application -- best advice to every applicant.

Declare your child and your husband so you can include them in your application and/or sponsor them later on.

Hi thank you.

So are you telling it is better to apply as married and declared them even they will accompany me after few years?
Sure. You can always include them in your application and have them as Non-Accompanying Family Members.

Whatever you do, do not apply as single if you are married. As pointed out, this is misrepresentation, which can result in you loosing your PR at a later date. If you were to claim single and then tried to sponsor your husband and child at a later date, you would likely find that you could not sponsor them as family members ever. They would need to find there own means to immigrate to Canada through a different means. You could never sponsor them......ever! There's no appeal, no H&C, no recourse. There are many threads on this site were people have made this error (intentionally or not) and have found the only way to overcome this is to renounce their own PR and start over. Don't make that mistake.

It is very important that you apply as married, and include your husband and child on the application. They can be listed as non-accompanying, which means you plan to sponsor them later. However, if you apply as single, you will never be able to sponsor them, and might lose your own PR as well.
