My brother has invited my son to stay and work with him in Canada. My brother's employer has issued a letter of employment and my brother has confirmed that his family will support my son while he is there. My son has just finished school and so does not have the post secondary education year or work experience. Is there a way that this can be arranged on an alternative visa or method. All working holiday visas from Ireland have been issued for 2013.

Can my son go on a working visa obtained through the embassy or some other method?

Thanks for your help

You effectively have two choices.

1) Wait until next year and apply for the working holiday visa program once it re-opens.
2) Apply for a closed work permit. To qualify to apply for a closed work permit, the employer will first have to apply and be approved for a Labour Market Opinion. As part of this process, the employer will have to prove they advertised the job and were unable to find a Canadian to hire for the position. If the LMO is approved, your son can then apply for a closed work permit.
