I'm a Canadian citizen, living the US for the past 15 years. I am moving back to Canada to accept a job offer. I want to bring my wife and step-daughter into Canada and get them permanent resident status. They are both Chinese citizens with US Green Cards. My question is this:

Can I bring them in as visitors and THEN apply for PR after they're already in Canada? or would that be illegal? ? i.e. Can I change their status from visitor to PR after they've already entered as visitors? If this is not possible, then I guess that means I would have to apply for their PR from Canada, while they wait for God-knows-how-long in the US? Am I correct or am I missing something here?

Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,

As you are Canadian citizen, I don't think it is illegal that your wife and step child to visit Canada on TRVs, which can get extended. Please go to the link for other details for sponsoring them and check your eligibility for it :
