Hello there,

I am currently under visitor visa in Canada. Married to a canadian Citizen and applied for my Permenant Residenship on October 2017. We also submitted an open work permit together with my PR application. However its going to be 6 months soon and my visitor visa is going to expire in 20 days.

We received an acknowledgement receipt via email in December stating they have received my application. And also asking us to link my application online. We tried many times but failed as it says no application found. We received another letter via email for the police clearance cert and we sent that documents via mail postage.

My question is :
1) should i apply for an extension for my legal status in canada..? Extension of my visitor visa as it is expiring and my PR and Work permit is still in the process?

2) if i cant link my application online will it be okay to send any documenta needed via mail the next time they need any documents from us?

You are currently under implied status, so technically you don't need to extend your visitor status as implied status will last for as long as it takes to get the OWP.

However if there were any errors on your OWP app and they send it back to you, then your implied status ends. If during this time your visitor status also ended then you would suddenly be without status. As long as it was within 3 months of your visitor status ending, you could immediately re-apply for OWP along with a restoration of status form.
Or, what some people do is to simply extend their visitor status, just in case this happens they won't be out of status and won't need to do the restoration app.

Typically you should get the OWP (or worst case have it returned) within 3-4 months from submitting it.

You always have the option to send docs via mail. Though there is probably a reason your app isn't linking, perhaps you can try the call centre to ask.
