Hello,

My common-in-law partner and I are in the process of applying for Family Class Sponsorship and PR. He is in Canada and I currently live in the UK.

I'm planning to move to Canada in July after our application has been submitted. Am I correct saying that I can stay in Canada only for up to 6 months as a Czech citizen if the sponsorship and PR aren't processed by then?

Also is it true that I will not be able to work until my PR is processed? Or do I have to apply for a work permit separately? If I'm not permitted to work, I would like to study for the half year (to top up my BA with an HR 'refresher' short course), do I need a study visa for that?

When I go to Canada in July, shall I bring all my PR etc. paperwork with me? Should I also have a return flight ticket as I may be asked to leave after 6 months?

I'm new to all this and feel like my head is going to burst :o ::)... Please help!

Go to Canada and say you are just visiting. After you get in, get legal advice. U dont want the immigration officer to think you will overstay. I'm not sure if Czech citizens are visa exempt but if it were me I would buy a return ticket.

No you can not work when you come to Canada as a visitor. Yes bring all your PR application with you. This will help if the CBSA officer asks you why you are coming. This will show the officer that you know the rules and you are going to abide by them. You are not coming to live in Canada that is a very important statement . You are coming to visit. Do not bring every thing you own on a visit.

You will be better off studying on line as international schooling is very expensive. Make sure you have heath coverage also and some sort of ties to the U.K. a RETURN TICKET IS ADVISABLE AS SOMETIMES THE AIRLINE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU ON THE PLANE WITHOUT A RETURN TICKET .

This happened to my son who is Canadian but was traveling on British passport . We had to prove to them at the airport that my son was indeed born in Canada and he didn't need a return ticket .
