Dear Friends

I got offer for one year Masters course for Fall 2021, and the course is delivered online at the moment due to ongoing pandemic, Are we still eligible for PGWP?
I have read cic , and they mentioned the amount of time we spent in person is only counted for the length of PGWP.

However, I have heard that admissions from 2020 to 2021 fall can be completed online. Please correct if my understanding is wrong.

If in case the university will have to continue the total course online, will it be considered as distance learning? or Fall 2021 admissions online spent time also gets counted for pgwp?

Also, the start of Fall 2021 is going to begin in a week and I just received offer letter. It takes minimum 2 months to get study visa even if I apply immediately.
Could you please advise what best moves can be made? Either to differ this admission or should I accept and go ahead in attending online classes without study visa.

Please suggest your inputs..

1. Yes, you would still be eligible for PGWP.
2. You can start online for Fall, provided your school can guarantee full/partial refunds if visa is refused.

Outside Canada distance learning
You can complete 100% of your studies online from outside Canada.

All of the time you spend studying online from outside Canada between spring 2020 and December 31, 2021 counts toward the length of a PGWP. This applies even if you’re completing 2 study programs.

If you’re completing 2 study programs, you can finish 100% of your studies online if the programs were ongoing or started between March 2020 and fall 2021 and
The following time won’t count toward the length of a PGWP:
  • time spent studying outside Canada after December 31, 2021
  • time spent studying before you applied for a study permit
Inside Canada distance learning
If distance learning makes up less than 50% of your study program, you may be eligible for a PGWP. The length of the PGWP would match the length of your program, including both in-class and distance courses. Any distance courses completed outside Canada won’t be included in the length of the PGWP.

If distance learning makes up more than 50% of your study program, you aren’t eligible for a PGWP.

Dear rogelcorral
Thanks for sharing, i have read these guidelines. However, I am concerned about 2nd point of below
The following time won’t count toward the length of a PGWP:
  • time spent studying outside Canada after December 31, 2021
  • time spent studying before you applied for a study permit
The time spend studying before you applied for a study permit:
As I received admission offer just yesterday for Fall 2021, Even I initiate study visa now, it will take easily 2 months. But classes will start soon this month.
my masters course is 1 year duration. So if i get study visa after 2 months, Should we deduct 2 months from the length of the program?
i.e 10 months?

Please let me know whether I should go ahead and accept the offer and raise study visa by taking risk or should reject/defer?

Better to defer to the next intake. According to the IRCC rule, Fall 2021 semester is still considered for PGWP. but any succeeding semester should be in person. For time spent studying before applying for SP, if you start studying before submitting your application, then that would not be considered. But if you start studying after you submit your application, when you are under implied status, that should count towards your PGWP. I could be wrong in my interpretation, other more veteran members may correct me.

Personally, I find it weird that your uni would issue an offer with just about a week before Fall sem starts, knowing fully well that SP application doesn’t generally get approved overnight.

All the best to you.

What are the conditions on your letter?
How many intakes is it good for?
Does the program have a Winter and/or Summer intake?

Answer to these questions will help you with your decision.

Dear Wonderbly
There are no conditions mentioned in the offer letter apart from official transcripts of previous transcripts to be received before the start of the classes.
This master degree is course-based and it is only in Fall Term. If I miss this Fall, I will have to defer to 2022 Fall only provided if the admissions committee agrees to differ and final decision can vary.
The reason they delayed issuing offer letter is due to some approvals as they mentioned in the mail.
I am bit skeptical as if I miss this, I will have to wait for next Fall only. On the other hand, if I accept I am not sure about study visa timelines as per cic the avg time is 2 months for issuing.
