Hi,

Actually, my mother in law landed in 1994 and left Canada for 20 years+. She failed the obligation. She could use her hometown passport to visit Canada until recently we need ETA. If she wishes to travel to Canada, does renounce the only option for her? If it is how long will it take?

Thanks!

if renouncing in reponse to an ETA application and the form is uploaded through MYCIC the process could take as little as a week to 10 days for the renounce to be processed and the ETA issued, no real way to know though so this is just an estimate based on what some others have said .Paper applications of course likely longer.

Applying for a PRTD not really realistic after such a long time as difficult to show any residency.

By the way 20 years a PR without residency is nothing some people have been caught out applying for ETA who were PR 35 or so years ago and forgot they were so had to renounce even though they had visited Canada many times in all those years.
