Hello,

I am in Montreal. I got my post grad work permit for three years after studies. It got expired. And then i applied for extension and got for another one year.
I have applied for my permanent residence.. But i am very sure i wont get it in a year :( :( :(
I heard somewhere in the site that i can get only 4 years totally work permit.
IS it true? i cant extend it anymore????
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!! :'( :'( :'( :'(

I think a lot of people would be interested to know how you managed to get an extension for an expired 3 year PGWP.. I have always been led to understand that a) 3 years was the limit and b) they are not extendable. Details?

why you are not getting pr?

which province are you?

I presume he got a job and got a work permit with LMO. No? I don't think the PGWP itself would be extended. It will be an addition to my knowledge if that is the case.

That being said, it is true that work permit is valid for four years max only. But CIC website also says it can be extended beyond that in limited conditions / professions.

Probably the OP can make a case for himself that his PR application is already in process to a certain close stage of approval plus he already is working with a fine job.

OP should do it well BEFORE the expiry of work permit.

Also you should go through this link in detail

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who-eligible/four-year-maximum.asp?s=2

Specifically go through the "Exceptions" heading since you might be granted extension if you are in NOC 0 or A. Plus there are other things mentioned.

Since you have applied for PR,once you get ur application number you can apply for bridging work permit four months before the expiry date of your work permit. It will be extended until you get your residency.

After a TFW has reached their four-year cumulative duration limit, they will not be granted another work permit in Canada for an additional four years. After that time has elapsed, the worker will again be permitted to work in Canada.

Some workers will be exempt from the cumulative duration regulation.

TFWs in managerial (NOC 0) or professional occupations (NOC A).
TFWs who have applied for permanent residence and received:
a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ) if applying as a Quebec Skilled Worker;
a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) certificate if applying as a provincial nominee;
an approval in principle letter if applying under the Live-in Caregiver Class;
a positive selection decision if applying under the Federal Skilled Worker Class; or
a positive selection decision if applying under the Canadian Experience Class.
TFWs who are employed in Canada under an international agreement, such as NAFTA, the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program, or another agreement.
TFWs who are exempt from the Labour Market Opinion process, including:
Spouses and common-law partners of international graduates participating in the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program and highly-skilled TFWs;
Charitable or religious workers;
Entrepreneurs, intra-company transferees, researchers and academics;
Others for purposes of self-support (refugee claimants) or humanitarian reasons (destitute students, holders of Temporary Resident Permits valid for at least six months)

Thank u so much for all ur reply.
I got my CSQ so i applied with that, so i got it extended for an year. but i am not sure if it will be extended more :(

And also i am quality software engineer..

You should confirm that but since you got a CSQ and your PR application is already in process, i think you are eligible for extension UNTIL a result is announced for your PR app.

I confirmed and thats true! i can extend :)

That's good news congrats. Also by the way, since you mentioned you are a quality software engineer, check your NOC.

If it is 2173/4, then basically you are already in NOC A, which according to link already posted earlier, is exempted from the 4 year limit. That is not a guarantee though and there is always a possibility of refusal from CIC for extension. But at least the limit of four years cannot be an argument for a NOC A (or NOC 0) candidate
