Hi Guys,

I am an international student here in Canada. I have been here for almost 3 years. I applied to extend my study permit inside Canada, as I did in the past and got it with no problem. However, this time I have received a refusal letter stating the following:

"Foreign nationals from certain countries who are applying for renewal of their work or study
permit or authorization to remain in Canada as a temporary resident for a period in excess of six
consecutive months are required to submit, and must submit, to a medical examination.
Pursuant to Regulation 181(2) it has been determined that you have failed to meet the
requirements identified under regulation 179(f) as you have not completed medical surveillance
requirements
"

As far as I know, and according to the checklist, student extending their study permit from within Canada, are not required to undergo medical examination!!!!

I have applied this april (April, 2013) and I just received the letter.

Anybody have any idea what is this about, and what my options might be......Please this is urgent!!!

Thank you in advance for your time

are you sure you filled out the application correctly?

They usually do this for those on tourist visa's who have not had a medical before coming to Canada. But since students usually do, does not make sense. It could just be that the person processing your application may have made a mistake. It could very well be a new rule.

In any case, if you cant get through to them, i would recommend just getting it done within the time frame they gave you to avoid any problems. But definitely try to call them first.

I did fill the application right. In fact, I have called them and the agent over the phone was surprised too as why the immi. agent denied my application instead of asking for medical  .

Anyway, basically she said bad luck and I have to apply again with medical eventhough the medical was not a requirement in first place....total BS.

I have done the medical which cost some $390 + $125 for new application, total rip-off- no justice, so disappointed - total waste of time.

Hopefully will workout this time and get my permit :'(.

So many strange things happening lately. I hope they really know what they are doing and not just refuse somebody just to lessen their work.

Hi,

Yesterday i was helping my friend for extension online.
The wizard is asking about medical.
There was nothing like this in March,2013,

Can you tell me more about the medical exam.
Like the place and what type of medical check up ?

Good Luck.

Medical is required in extending your TRV if you have stayed in Canada for more than 12 months. You can see the list of CIC panel physician on "cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medical.aspx". I did my medicals like a week ago and I didn't spend more than $160 for all the tests.
