Extension of Open work permit for dependent spouse

I entered Canada with ICT work permit (NOC A,B, C category) last August and my wife came along with me as dependent and got her visitor record.
After we came here, my wife applied for and received open work permit which is expiring with my work permit in August this year.
My question is that can I apply for my wife’s open work permit extension before I can get my work permit extended.
If I wait till my work permit gets extended, by that time her WP will get expired and she will not be legally entitled to work.
Please suggest what to do in this case?

Do we need to file for her Visitor record extension also?
