Hi,

I am an International student who has been in Canada for 2 years - since August 2007. I came to the country for a one year post graduate diploma, at a popular college, which i have completed. As expected, i applied for the Post Graduate Work Permit, which i got - for one year - and is about to expire in the next four months - April 2010 .

Almost six months into my work permit, i got a job with one of Canada's top banks, as a Customer Service Representative, which i have been at for almost two months. I want to extend my work permit - which is a Post Graduate Work Permit - to a proper work permit.

After contacting Immigration Canada - using the 1-888 line - i was informed, that my current employer would have to contact Human Resource Development Canada, before i can even get started, and that was all i got - insufficient. The information on the web-site i reckon isn't specific enough for my peculiar situation. My question/concern goes thus -

* What specific steps, do i have to take, and what specific documents do i present to move from my one year Post Graduate Work Permit to a proper work permit.

* Does my current job title, qualify for a positive Labor market Opinion - especially since i have two degrees, an undergraduate degree, and my recently completed Post Grad diploma?

* How long does this application, and processing take?

* What information does my current employer need/ or do i have to present?

Eagerly anticipate, a response.

1. The employer has to advertise the position on the job bank for 2 weeks, it must be NOC A,B or O. Then they apply to HRSDC for an LMO. They have to demonstrate that there are no Canadians/PRs available for the work and why those that applied weren't qualified.
2. If the LMO is approved then you would have to applied for a new work permit either at Port of Entry if you don't require a TRV or at Vegreville.
3. Depends on the province, it could take up to 12 weeks for HRSDC.
4. Customer service representative is probably not going to be approved. It probably falls into NOC 1453 which is semi-skilled.
