Extending work permit after it expires

Hello everyone, have a situation here.

I recently got a job offer rescinded because they were unsure of what I will do after my work permit expires. I said that I have applied for PR (express entry profile entered, 437 points after 1 year of work experience), and if I wait till next January 2019 my score can be 462 based on the calculator. The work permit expires in late July 2019, which I am confident that I should get PR by then. They did not want to take the chance.

My question is: if I am very unlucky and not get a invitation to apply but have an express entry profile submitted, also working for the same company, can I apply to extend my work permit? Or if I get a new job and the start date is in Sep 2019, can I use that letter of employment to extend my work permit? Would it be under open or closed work permit?

I think if you get your AOR before your work permit expiry you can use that and apply for Bridging open work permit that will let you to stay and work in Canada legally. Check this link for more info https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio.../extend-permit/bridging-open-work-permit.html
