My husband is a British citizen, his visitor visa is expiring 19th of February. I am submitting the sponsership papers tomorrow. Should i extend his visa just to be safe? In the forms (extending form) its asking me how much he has financially to sustain himself. He is currently not working. which is why i was thinking do i really need to pay the extra 100 to extend his visa if im already submitting sponsorship papers tomorrow?? any input would be helpful.

Are you applying inland or outland?

Regardless, yes - you should absolutely apply to extend his stay. If you are applying inland and have included an OWP with the application, then technically no extension is required. However we have seen a number of inland applications returned recently due to small errors (e.g. missing signature, incomplete form). If this happens to you - he would then be out of status in Canada which will complicate matters. Extending his visitor visa gives you insurance and protects you from this risk - so yes, definitely do it.

Yes I did add an OPW, and I understand about document being returned and then complication things because then iwould have to restore his status. However wouldn't he be rejected anyway if he is unemployed and has no savings because im currently supporting the family?

What would be rejected? The visitor visa extension? No - it definitely shouldn't be. He would provide evidence of your income and state that he's applying to extend his status while you file an application to sponsor him for PR.

There isn't spot on the form to explain in detail; you will need to attach a letter of explanation. If you apply online, there is a spot for you to upload one.

Up to you, I put family visit on mine, I know other people who have put "other".

Sorry keep putting out threads, but also its asking him how long he extends to stay ?
Put six months from the date of the application

His visitor permit/record = his mycic account. Not yours.

You can expect to wait 4-6 weeks (could be more, could be less) before hearing anything on your pr application..and even that would only be AOR.
