I am a British Citizen currently in Montreal on the International Experience Canada program. It was valid from May 2011 and expires on May 22nd 2012.
During this time I got married to my Canadian wife and we both set up home here and were going to apply for Permanent Residency in Canada for me.
However, my Mother became ill in England and it required (amongst other reasons) we change our plans and move to the UK to help care for her. So we applied for and were granted an UK Settlement Visa for my wife.
Sadly very recently my Mother passed away. Due to this and other extunating circumstances it has made us reconsider our decision. We did not think such a tragic thing would happen so suddently. Therefore we do not want to leave for the UK as planned by May 22nd. As we thought we were going to live in the UK I didnt apply for Permanent Residency for Canada or try to reapply for my Work Visa (during this time I've been trying to learn French to enable me to find employment.)
So, in conclusion we are a month away from my IEC Visa running out and we need to know desperately if we can extend my stay in Canada for a few months, (even if it's just as a visitor) at short notice? That will enable us to take stock as to where our long term future lies following recent sudden and sad events. From that point on we will perhaps apply for Permanent Residency in Canada.
Any advice would be so greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Ian
