Extending my visitor record

Hi all,
I've been in canada now for over a year and am about to embark on the process of getting PR through common-law sponsorship.

I have already extended my stay as a visitor, this runs out in July 2012.

My question is: Should I extend this again while my PR application is being processed, or does the fact that I have applied for PR give me 'implied status' until the application is finalised?

Ahhh, just spoke to CIC call center ( 1-888-242-2100)

While waiting for PR to be processed you have to always maintain legal status in Canada, so I have to re-new my visitor record.
