Extending 30 day visa in India

I have applied for a tourist visa on emergency grounds. They have given me a 30 day visa. But I would need to extend it. Can anyone let me know how I can extend this visa beyond 30 days in India?

This cannot be extended under normal circumstances. Maybe there is an option to approach the Home Ministry, on humanitarian grounds, which is responsible for visas / foreigner stays. They may be able to give you a better idea.
