Extend work permit while Application is being processed ??

Hi,

So my working holiday visa expire June 2017. I will applying for residency through common law spouse sponsorship. Can I stay in Canada after my visa expires if I have submitted my permanent residency application?

I would truly appreciate some answers.

Apply outland.

If you apply now, you will most likely be a PR before your current work permit expires. Your app will either go to London, averaging around 8 months, or Ottawa, averaging around 6 months.

OUTLAND and INLAND only refer to where the app is processed, not your location. Apply OUTLAND, and your app is processed either in London or Ottawa (visa office for US OUTLAND and some others.) Ottawa has been processing apps as quickly as one month this summer, and London is fairly quick, too.

I'm US, applying OUTLAND, living here with wife (as visitor).

No, it doesn't. You can remain in Canada while your outland app processes. Use your Canadian address for the app; there is no need to list a foreign address.

If you still haven't received PR a few weeks before your current work permit expires, then you can apply to change your status and extend your stay as visitor.

There is no work permit available with the outland process. Unless you qualify for a work permit another way, you will have to change to visitor.
