My husband and I would like to apply for permanent residency in Canada through the Express Entry program and I had a couple of questions about the best way to go about it. We are Indian citizens who were educated in the US.

1/. My husband will be the primary applicant. As his spouse, will I also be required to take a Language proficiency test ?

2/. Is a joint application more advisable than two separate applications?

Advisable because you stand to gain some points by doing that.

You can file separate applications with either of you as the primary applicant but it won't increase your chances of landing an ITA. Instead, figure out which way of applying gets you the highest CRS score and proceed with that. Typically, the spouse with higher educational qualification, work experience and language scores being the primary applicants gets the higher CRS score. For more, see the link
